The Crossover Episode: Upon Closer Inspection
If there's one thing I love more than breakfast, it's giving my opinion on things I may or may not be qualified to evaluate (I mean, that's the whole point of this blog after all...).
Combine that with a deep appreciation for nostalgia, add in some super cool people, and voila—that's how I found myself as a guest on the podcast Upon Closer Inspection: Revisiting Movies from Our Childhood.
The premise is great: Allison and Graham watch movies from their childhood to see if they still hold up. Then, they talk about it in a funny and sometimes thought provoking way and record it as a podcast.
Of the options on the table, I opted to watch Hook—a classic to be sure and one of only a few VHS tapes that I owned growing up which means I've seen it several dozen times. Plus, I was curious if it would still hold up. It was released in 1991 (let that sink in.) and stars Robin Williams (RIP), Dustin Hoffman, Julia Roberts and a whole slew of interesting and surprising cameos.
But of course, this being a breakfast blog, we also incorporated breakfast into the festivities. I like letting my guests choose the place and Allison's select was DeeDee's for their breakfast burritos.
I went with the vegetarian version which included spicy fried potato, scrambled egg, salsa, cheese, refried beans, and some kind of vegetarian/vegan breakfast meat substitute. I also had a delicious homemade lemonade.
And, I gotta say, as a breakfast burrito goes this one was pretty delicious.
As for the movie? Well, you'll just have to listen to find out...
